Psychiatric Nursing Program

United Home Health Care of Shreveport now offers a physician-directed program in psychiatric home care.

Psychiatric home health care can allow for early discharge of patients from psychiatric nurses, provide continuity of care, and bridge the gap between hospital and home; it can allow the physician to determine if a patient requires hospitilization or can be treated at home, therefore preventing unnecessary hospitilizations.

The psychiatric nurse can be the physician's eyes and ears in assessing the interactions of patient and family members in the home environment. As a result, a patient's mental status can be more closely monitored, which can enhance the recovery process.

Our Medicare-certified psychiatric nurses make intermittent nursing visits that offer management and coordination of care for clients while in the therapeutic environment of their home. Interventions include physical and psychosocial evaluations, medication management, coping techniques, post-ECT care, lab draws and drug level monitoring.
